This scenario-based eLearning training helps new employees at a home staging company prepare to successfully stage home interiors by having them apply their knowledge of basic design principles.

Audience: Employees at a home staging company

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboard, and Prototyping

Tools: Articulate Storyline, Inkscape, Canva, and Google Workspace

Overview

The client is the founder of a home staging business called Savvy Staging that caters to clients who want to get the most out of selling their home. Her business has been growing rapidly, which has led to her hiring more employees, but she has noticed that her new employees often do not have a full understanding of how to apply their knowledge of design principles when staging home interiors, and the company has received some negative feedback from clients via emails and online reviews.

To solve this performance problem and eliminate the knowledge gap, I recommended scenario-based eLearning so that the founder’s employees could experience realistic scenarios and make mistakes in a risk-free setting before they continue to assist clients in the real world.

Process

I completely designed and developed this eLearning experience using the ADDIE model and iterated during each step. The process included a needs analysis with the SME through action mapping to determine the type of training needed, a text-based storyboard and script, visual mockups using Google Slides and Inkscape (a free vector-editing software similar to Adobe Illustrator), and finally, prototypes through Articulate Storyline where I solicited feedback from stakeholders before successfully completing the project.

Highlights

This training highlighted my ability to source and edit vector graphics, which I accomplished using Inkscape, a free open-source vector graphics editing software similar to Adobe Illustrator. I really enjoyed the challenge of creating a custom color palette to ensure that the vectors I manipulated looked cohesive throughout the project. In this training, I also wrote and developed a video in Canva that I embedded into Storyline to give learners a visual reference for the design principles they would be expected to apply during the scenario section. Learners could choose whether or not they needed the video refresher or were ready to proceed to the home staging design scenarios. Finally, this training deepened my experience in using motion paths, sound effects, states, variables, and triggers.

This eLearning training helps newly hired event planners at a technology company become familiar with their company's protocols for planning green (environmentally conscious) meetings and conferences.

Audience: Novice event planners at a technology company

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboard, and Prototyping

Tools: Articulate Storyline, Canva, and Google Workspace

Overview

I researched, wrote, and built this eLearning training exercise in Articulate Storyline 360 centered around a newly hired event planner who must become familiar with his/her company's protocols for planning green (environmentally conscious) meetings and conferences. The event planner goes on a "tour" of a large event space to explore, identify, and learn about different objects that align with and violate the company's green policies. This exercise was developed based on information distributed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, which sets national standards for sustainability practices. This conceptual training showcases my grasp of triggers, states, layers, variables, embedded audio, and other features of Articulate Storyline.

Audio/Video Editing

"How to Host the Perfect Board Game Event" is an informational video guide I wrote, created, and narrated for anyone who is looking to expand their social circle while learning new games. As an event organizer of a board game group in the Washington, D.C. area with more than 4,000 members, this video discusses tips I've learned after hosting over 100 public board game events through Meetup.com since 2018.

This video was developed to showcase my script writing, audio narration, and video editing skills, using stock video from Canva and my own photographs.

Leadership and Facilitation

Gilmore Schoology ESOL Presentation.pdf

During the 20-21 school year, my organization was one of a few in the county to pilot a new learning management system called Schoology. In the fall of 2021, Schoology went live countywide. I was selected to create and facilitate a Schoology training session on Zoom for dozens of other ESOL (English as a Second Language) instructors in Fairfax County Public Schools.
